Lake of the Springs -- Memorial Weekend 2017

This makes my third trip to Lake of the Springs, Oregon House, CA.  We first went last summer, then again at Thanksgiving time, and now Memorial weekend.  What a difference!  Thanksgiving weekend was so not crowded.  We got a FHU spot and those are very limited.  Not only that, but there were no people for 4 spots on either side of us.  We enjoyed exploring new trails, watching the deer, and the dewy cool weather was perfect for the shih tzu.

I knew Memorial weekend would be crowded but we had a reservation and I was thinking, "how bad could it be?"  Never saw anything like it in my life.  This place has 560 camping spots or cabins, in 7 different vaguely circular areas, some down by the beach, some way up in the hills.  Our first choice was B, which is closest to the dog beach, but that was already full. The one next to B, A section, had a sign saying full.  Across the way are sections G and H.  I found a spot in G but it was a tight fit, more like a tent spot than a motor home spot but beggers can't be choosers.

The next door neighbors would leave for hours and left two dogs in a screened cabana who whined and barked most of the time.  The people on the other side of us were there but their two labs would start barking every time we walked by and not stop for awhile.  Lots of dogs, lots of people and I think my 3 dogs were the only ones there who never barked, thank goodness.

A lot of people were breaking the rules but I only saw enforcement one time the whole 3 days when they asked someone who was parked on the road to move.  A lot of the sites had way more than 2 tents and 10 people.  I saw clotheslines strung up between trees.  But, I know it's a big money-maker weekend for Thousand Trails.

On Saturday morning, me and the dogs were walking and came upon a much nicer site in between two cabins.  I was wondering what was wrong with it and thought maybe the electricity didn't work.  But we moved anyway and I'm glad we did.  It was much nicer and everything worked.

The dog beach got a little trashed during the winter storms but the dogs still had fun.  Poppy did a lot of running and swimming with two labs that were very boisterous.  I was worried she wouldn't be able to walk back after all that playing.  She was sore for a few days after but otherwise o.k.

The people beach was nice as always.  We did a lot of walking.  Decided to leave on Sunday late afternoon rather than try to leave on Monday with 3,000 other people and one dump station.  All in all, a very pleasant holiday weekend.

Some very tired doggies.
